Whether it’s game day, a potluck, or just a cozy night at home, there’s one dish I always come back to—and that’s buffalo chicken dip. I’ve been making some version of this recipe for years, and let me tell you—it’s always a fan favourite. Creamy, spicy, cheesy, and now with a healthy twist, this dip has all the flavour you love with a little more nutrition packed in.

What I love most about this dish is that it's incredibly versatile. It’s indulgent enough to feel like a treat, yet made with wholesome ingredients that offer a nice balance of macronutrients. By replacing some of the heavier elements like full-fat cream cheese or sour cream with Greek yogurt and cottage cheese, you still get the creamy texture and rich flavour, but with a boost of protein and less saturated fat. It's a great way to sneak in extra nutrition without sacrificing the taste that makes this dip so beloved.

This dip also makes fantastic leftovers. It reheats beautifully and doubles as a delicious topping for baked potatoes, toast, or wraps the next day. In fact, I often make a double batch just so I have extras on hand. I like to freeze half of the recipe for a quick snack or to bring to a gathering. It's freezer-friendly—just portion it into individual servings or store it in an airtight container, then reheat whenever you're ready. Trust me, you’ll be glad to have it ready to go!

And let’s not forget the dippers! While it’s totally acceptable (and delicious) to scoop this up with tortilla chips, I personally love pairing it with celery or cucumber sticks. Funny enough, I’ve been making this recipe for so long that I had it completely memorized. I never measured anything—I just threw it all together from memory. Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup yellow onion, chopped (or red onion)

  • 1 tbsp oil

  • 2 tsp minced garlic

  • ½ block cream cheese

  • 2 cups shredded chicken

  • ½ cup cottage cheese

  • ½ cup Greek yogurt

  • 2 tbsp ranch

  • 2 tbsp mayo

  • ½ cup buffalo sauce

  • Sprinkle of black pepper

  • ½ cup shredded marble cheese (for inside the dip)

  • ½ cup shredded cheese (extra for topping before baking)

Dip options: Cucumber, celery, carrots, tortilla chips, baguette, crackers

Directions:

  1. Chop onion and sauté with oil and garlic until fragrant (2-3 minutes).

  2. Add cream cheese and stir until smooth (about 5 minutes).

  3. Mix in shredded chicken, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, ranch, and mayo. Let simmer for 5 minutes.

  4. Pour in buffalo sauce and add black pepper. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until bubbling. Then, mix in shredded cheese.

  5. Transfer to an oven-safe dish and top with shredded cheese.

  6. Broil for 2 minutes until melty and golden.

  7. Serve with your favourite dippers and enjoy!
